Community College Kids Mentality

Community College Students

I love how driven people seem to be here at Front Range. Many of them, work to pay their own way through school, while giving every ounce of effort they have into their schoolwork and towards being successful. That mentality is so different than many of the kids I met at ASU last semester; they aren't spoiled. Nothing is worse than the rich Cali-kid mentality I saw at there, where they relied on daddy's $4 million a year salary to pay for their car, apartment and to bail them out of any trouble they may get into.

Yes, my Dad pays for my college and I'm very grateful for that; it's a privilege that many kids don't have and it shouldn't be wasted. My dad has done very well for himself, and that's because he worked his ass off to be a success in life. However, that's "his" money and in no way should I go out of my way to boast about how wealthy I am when I've done nothing. My parents could theoretically stop supporting me if they wanted to, and then that whole "wealthy kid" stigma would go away; many kids don't realize that. I admire those who push themselves through an eight hour shift only to come home with a four page English paper due the next day and don't complain. Next time I hear someone mention a stupid stereotype about community college students, I will gladly debate the issue with them.
